For 170 years, the Société de Saint-Vincent de Paul de Montréal has been providing emergency assistance (food assistance, furniture, clothing). Last year, 53,000 people – including 15,500 children – benefited.
During the holiday season, the Société distributes more than 5,500 Christmas hampers and provides food and material assistance to more than 35,000 people.
Whether it’s a matter of survival or a helping hand during a difficult period, the bag of groceries puts three days of food on the table. This basic assistance is offered to families and people struggling financially to support them in their daily lives. The Société de Saint-Vincent de Paul treats everyone equally. Eighty percent of our clients live on less than $7,000 per year. We have also observed an increase of nearly 20% in the number of single individuals receiving retirement pensions who are unable to feed themselves and who rely on food assistance.
We feed hunger and hope for a fairer world: not poverty!
