The Board of Trade salutes Quebec's "New Champions" of economic development

Press release

The Board of Trade salutes Quebec’s “New Champions”
of economic development

Montréal, August 31, 2007 – As they depart for the Inaugural Annual Meeting of the New Champions in Dalian, China, from September 6 to 8, the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal salutes the ten new Quebec champions of economic development selected by the World Economic Forum (WEF) to participate in this event.  The delegation will be lead by Raymond Bachand, Minister of Economic Development, Innovation, and Export Trade, and Gérald Tremblay, mayor of Montréal.

“More often than not, our champions are well known outside Quebec, but their accomplishments and achievements are not always recognized and acknowledged here at home.  These companies, which are our pride and joy, are undisputed leaders in their respective fields and deserve our whole-hearted admiration and encouragement since their successes reflect well on our entire community,” declared Isabelle Hudon, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.

“Companies as successful as these new champions can only spur on other entrepreneurs. Their constant quest for innovation and their ability to implement ambitious projects are a source of inspiration to many others, and that is key to stimulating the economic development of Quebec and Montréal.  I would therefore like to take this opportunity to celebrate their achievements once again,” concluded Hudon.

The ten new champions selected by the WEF are Aluminerie Alouette, Atrium Innovations, CAE, Cirque du Soleil, Exfo Electrical-Optical Engineering, Fruits & Passion, Groupe Soucy, Cossette Communication Group, Multina, and Pratt & Whitney Canada.  The new champions were selected by the WEF based on the following criteria: strong growth, revenues of between US$100 million and US$5 billion, steady development outside their traditional market, industry leadership, and remarkable management.

The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal has some 7,000 members. Its primary mission is to represent the interests of the business community of the Greater Montreal and to provide individuals, merchants, and local businesses of all sizes with a variety of specialized services to help them achieve their full potential in terms of innovation, productivity and competitiveness. The Board of Trade is Quebec's leading private economic development organization.
