Montreal, November 1, 2013 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal welcomes the Transportation Electrification Strategy introduced today by Premier Pauline Marois.
« Quebec’s hydroelectric industry is a world leader, » said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. « The accessibility of the resource, which is produced sustainably and responsibly, has allowed us to develop expertise that is recognized worldwide. The strategy introduced today is based on the idea that we can consolidate that expertise in a related sector, one that holds promise for the future and will likely offer entrepreneurs incredible business opportunities. »
« The strategy’s implementation could reinforce the city’s position as a platform for development and commercialization, » Michel Leblanc said. « We have the considerable assets we need to be at the centre of this strategy. The many public and private research institutions and the presence of major players make the city an important place for innovation when it comes to electrification. We support the government’s intention to create a cluster to mobilize players in the community. The model of clusters has proven itself for developing the city’s niches of excellence. »
« We need to make sure that government policies and economic strategies are consistent to create a business environment that is conducive to investment, » Michel Leblanc said. « For example, initiatives to facilitate mining exploitation in the lithium industrial cluster for manufacturing batteries and closer cooperation between entrepreneurs and university research centres should be promoted. This consistency will be the key to maximizing the leverage effect of the Transportation Electrification Strategy. »
