Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield at the Board of Trade on January 23

Montreal, November 25, 2013 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal and evenko are pleased to announce that Canadian astronaut Colonel Chris Hadfield will be giving a talk for the city’s business community as part of the “Bell International Leaders” series. This event, which is being made possible through the support of Bell, will take place on Thursday, January 23, 2014, at 8 pm, in Théâtre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts. Colonel Hadfield will discuss his experience as Former Commander of the International Space Station, and will answer questions asked by Alexandre Taillefer, Managing Partner at XPND Capital.

“We are delighted and privileged to welcome Canadian astronaut Colonel Chris Hadfield, a man who, through his hard work and great humanity, has become an iconic figure on a planetary scale. The many photos and videos the astronaut posted on social media during his last mission drew the attention of the scientific community while also captivating the imagination of the general public. This rare feat has in fact earned Hadfield the distinction of being called “the most famous astronaut since Neil Armstrong,” which demonstrates the extent of his leadership and influence,” stated Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.

“evenko is proud to present, in partnership with the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal, Canadian astronaut Colonel Chris Hadfield who has demonstrated exemplary determination and commitment in accomplishing his important space missions. No doubt, he inspires us to become better leaders by having a more humanistic approach towards the ecological challenges of the 21st century’’, added Jacques Aubé, Executive Vice President and General Manager of evenko.

Col. Hadfield joined the team of Canadian astronauts in 1992, after an illustrious career as a test pilot with the Canadian Armed Forces. He took part in three space flights, including two to the International Space Station. In December 2012, he became the second Canadian astronaut to take part in a long-term mission and, a few months later, became the first Canadian to take on the position of commander of the Space Station. As if any further proof were needed, Col. Hadfield also confirmed the planetary impact of social media, namely via regular updates to his Twitter and Facebook feeds, and especially through a music video seen by some 20 million web users.

“Beyond his extensive résumé filled with such historic milestones as the installation of the Canadarm2 robot arm on the Space Station, what stands out most about Colonel Chris Hadfield are his perseverance and his work ethic, both of which make him one of our great leaders. He has been able to transcend the requirements of his job as an astronaut to become a source of inspiration to go further, for millions of younger and older folks, students, and business people,” concluded Mr. Leblanc.

This Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal event is held with the support of Bell, in partnership with evenko and with the collaboration of La Presse, The Gazette, CJAD 800, Loto-Québec, and Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP. Prior to Col. Chris Hadfield, Rudy Giuliani, Nicolas Sarkozy, Mikhail Gorbachev, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bill Clinton, Tony Blair, George W. Bush, Alan Greenspan, and Sir Richard Branson have all appeared at the Board of Trade’s International Leaders forum.
