Four key messages from our first Forum on Artificial Intelligence

On January 15, the Chamber played host to local and international artificial intelligence (AI) experts for its Strategic Forum. The event brought together over 850 business leaders to better understand the impact of artificial intelligence on the future of their industries. Here are four key messages from the Forum.

1. AI: Economic development potential for the city

AI is clearly a cornerstone for the future of the city’s economy. Montréal has an excellent international reputation and an outstanding AI innovation ecosystem. We have to continue to develop the ecosystem and direct our efforts toward applying and commercializing research results in this sector of the future.

2. Transform key industries through AI

There is universal agreement that innovations from AI will generate considerable gains across industries. Experts who attended the Forum emphasized the importance for local companies of making the shift by investing in technology infrastructure and analytical tools today. They can leverage the concentration of know-how found in the city to create rewarding scientific and industrial partnerships.

3. Prepare the succession for AI

To enable the organizational transformation of businesses through AI, we need to train enough labour to meet the needs of local companies, both in terms of R&D and management, Dialogue between stakeholders is essential to train future generations that will be affected by these economic and social changes.

4. Organize the future of AI in Montréal

The Montréal business community also needs to mobilize immediately to strengthen the chain of innovation and ensure tomorrow’s world champions of AI emerge. To accomplish this, innovation supercluster projects headed up by Québec leaders in mobility technology and supply chains driven by AI are extremely promising.
