Another trade mission to New York for contractors
in Quebec's construction sector
Montréal, June 3, 2009 On June 3 and 4, 2009, contractors in the institutional, commercial, and industrial (IC/I) construction sector will participate in a fifth economic mission to American soil. Their goal will be to take advantage of a potential market that could total US$93 billion by 2010. The Association de la construction du Québec (ACQ) and the team of international trade experts at the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal the World Trade Centre Montréal will forge business ties with key stakeholders to explore opportunities to carry out construction work and provide services.
During this mission, participants will have the opportunity to meet with general contractors, architects, and distributors who are already well established in New York. While New York's economy is not sheltered from the effects of the recession, data concerning investment intentions indicate that it still offers many business opportunities, reports Luc Bourgoin, economist at the ACQ.
New York's non-residential construction sector abounds in projects that our contractors will learn more about during the mission. Our highly experienced team of international trade experts will help identify business opportunities for companies in the delegation, declared Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.
Through its various mandates to promote and defend the interests of construction contractors, the ACQ represents almost 15,000 companies with more than 93,000 workers. Its members operate primarily in the IC/I sectors and will account for about 60% of the 133 million hours expected to be worked in the industry in 2009. According to Act R-20, the ACQ is the employer association responsible for negotiating collective agreements for all employers in the IC/I sectors. It is also active in the residential sector through its Qualité Habitation and Qualité Rénovation warranty plans.
Through its experts at the World Trade Centre Montréal, the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal offers international trade services to the greater business community with the support of Canada Economic Development.
This mission is organized in partnership with the Ministère du Développement économique, de l'Innovation et de l'Exportation and the Québec Government Office in New York.
