Montréal, September 26, 2014 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is delighted with the official end of negotiations for the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between Canada and the European Union, which concluded today in the presence of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, and President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso.

“We congratulate the governments on having taken another step toward ratifying the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal, who was on hand in Parliament for this historic moment.

“This agreement will benefit businesses in the city, a natural gateway between North America and Europe,” Mr. Leblanc said. “Montréal has many clear competitive advantages that we need to start leveraging now to exploit the full potential of the European Union market, with its 500 million consumers and $18,000 billion in GDP.”
