Direct Montréal-Beijing flight: direct access to the world’s largest market

Montréal, September 29, 2015 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal would like to mark the importance of the new direct connection between Montréal and Beijing, the inaugural flight of which took place today. This is a strategic flight for the business community because China is Quebec’s second leading trading partner. The President and CEO of the Board of Trade, Michel Leblanc, travelled aboard the inaugural flight after taking part in a trade mission to China led by the Minister of the Economy, Innovation and Exports, Jacques Daoust. He also took part in the inauguration ceremony when he arrived in Montréal. This event was the culmination of over four years of effort involving many partners, whom the Board of Trade would like to congratulate: the Government of Quebec, Air China, Air Canada, Aéroports de Montréal, Tourisme Québec and Tourisme Montréal.

“This first direct flight to Asia is an important asset for Montréal business people who want to develop the Chinese market,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “Businesses should use the flight to Beijing as a gateway for their activities in Asia in addition to tapping into the many business opportunities of China’s increasing wealth and urbanization.”

“Now that Montréal has this flight, the Board of Trade will encourage the business community to use it to ensure it continues,” Mr. Leblanc said. “We recently created the microsite www.exportonslequebec.ca to talk about business opportunities in China. The Board of Trade is also helping organize a second trade mission to China, led by the Mayor of Montréal, from October 30 to November 6.”
