Montréal, September 8, 2016 ‒ The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal welcomes the agreement between the Government of Quebec and Uber to create a pilot project that will integrate the company’s activities into Bill 100 on the taxi industry. The Board of Trade congratulates the new Minister of Transport, Laurent Lessard, for his leadership on this issue, and Uber for having adapted its business model to the conditions that exist in Quebec.
“This pilot project is an important step that allows for the coexistence of a number of business models to benefit users and encourage innovation and competition,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “The business community is confident that with new players such as Téo Taxi and Uber joining a changing taxi industry, the city’s consumers will have access to quality service in their taxi trips.”
“Companies that operate in Quebec must comply with the law,” Michel Leblanc said. “Uber showed openness with this agreement by accepting to adjust its business model and collect taxes. It is essential that the two parties reach a compromise to put an end to the tensions that have made for a bitter debate in recent months.”
