The Board of Trade welcomes the formation of a global strategic alliance between Air Canada and Air China: one step closer to a direct flight between Montréal and Beijing

Montréal, November 11, 2014 ‒ The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal welcomes the announcement of a memorandum of agreement signed by Air Canada and Air China to stimulate growth in air traffic between the two countries.

“We congratulate the two carriers for signing this agreement and bringing us one step closer to a direct flight between Montréal and Beijing,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “Having this flight is a priority for the business community, and today we are closer to achieving our goal.”

“China is Quebec’s second leading economic partner, and a direct flight represents savings in time and money for businesses and facilitates access to this market,” Michel Leblanc said.

“The Board of Trade has long been involved in this issue and, with our partners, we are working under the leadership of Aéroports de Montréal (ADM) to convince carriers to introduce this new flight as soon as possible,” Mr. Leblanc said. “More broadly, the Board of Trade is committed to working to attract new flights and ensure existing ones continue. This is why the Board of Trade has worked with ADM, Montréal International and Tourisme Montréal to put together a structuring project that will be presented on iseemtl.com. The Board of Trade intends to raise awareness in the business community to help increase passenger load factors on long-haul direct flights from Montréal.”
