2017-2018 Annual report

The Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal has had some exciting moments in 2017-2018. Michelle Obama’s speaking engagement, the Strategic Forum on artificial intelligence – which attracted over 850 participants – and the mobilization of 25 metropolitan chambers of commerce in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico to strengthen NAFTA will remain etched in the organizational memory.

The Chamber also distinguished itself through strong positions on issues of concern to its members, with the publication of 11 briefs and two studies. We also organized over 150 events with some 24,000 business community participants.

This is in addition to services offered to businesses by the Chamber’s Acclr experts, who guided many companies in their local and international development efforts. This year, they organized nine trade missions, bringing the total number of trade missions to 20 for 2017-2018. They also responded to more than 15,000 requests for market orientation and information.

The language pairing pilot project was also a big success: it enabled over 160 local merchants to improve their French, thanks to 23 student mentors from Montréal universities. The project earned the Chamber two awards: the Innovation in Francization Award from the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications as part of the Fonds de promotion et de valorisation de la langue française (fund to promote the French language), and the Francization of Immigrants Merit award, from the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Diversité et de l’Inclusion.
