Third edition of InnoBahn Ubisoft: two start-ups innovate to tackle Aéroports de Montréal and Port of Montreal challenges

Montréal, December 14, 2016 – On Tuesday evening, the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal and Ubisoft held the third edition of InnoBahn Ubisoft, the first one devoted to the transportation and logistics sector. The event took place before over 180 audience members at the Monument National. Eight start-ups took to the stage to each present their solution to respond to the innovation challenges issued by Aéroports de Montréal and the Port of Montreal. At the end of this evening of creativity, two start-ups distinguished themselves and were named the winners by the large companies.

LARGE COMPANY CHALLENGES SOLUTION FROM WINNING START-UPS

Port of Montreal

Every day, thousands of trucks enter and leave Port of Montreal facilities to deliver and pick up containers. In an ideal world, trucks would arrive with a full container for export and leave with another full container for clients in the metropolitan area. Additionally, the arrival of trucks would be distributed throughout the day to avoid traffic jams and line-ups at the terminal entrances.

How can the number of unproductive trucks be reduced and movements optimized at the Port of Montreal?

Infra.ai

Infra.ai wants to use artificial intelligence to understand the behaviour of truckers heading to the Port of Montreal. The company is able to determine current waiting times at the port, but not future waiting times. It wants to provide this new piece of data using predictive models for forecast traffic for the coming hours and days. Truck drivers will be able to make better decisions about their movements.

Aéroports de Montréal

ADM manages an area of over 500,000 m2, and maintaining its infrastructures and over 15,000 pieces of equipment is a daily challenge. There are a variety of problems, and the processes for reporting them are simple, but poorly understood and not very effective.

How can minor problems at the airports be identified and handled efficiently and quickly, without increasing employee workload?

Seamless Planet

Seamless Planet wants to help Aéroports de Montréal develop its own chatbots. These would be virtual agents used to help employees when they spot a problem. Using natural language processing and semantic analysis algorithms, Seamless Planet can process, categorize and organize requests before they reach the call centre.

“Our InnoBahn Ubisoft series stimulates creativity in Montréal’s start-up ecosystem and gives it visibility,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal. “The partnerships formed yesterday will produce concrete results in terms of the road travel generated by the Port of Montreal and the operations at Aéroports de Montréal. We are eager to see the benefits resulting from these collaborations.”

“After three editions, it is clear that InnoBahn Ubisoft is a structuring process that stimulates innovation and creativity among business people from every sphere of Montréal’s economy,” said Francis Baillet, Vice-President, Corporate Affairs, at Ubisoft. “Start-ups and large companies have everything to gain from these encounters. Sometimes, just putting two businesses in touch with one another can lead to a solution to a problem and, at the same time, accelerate a company’s growth.”

The Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal’s InnoBahn Ubisoft event is made possible through the support of Ubisoft and organized in cooperation with consultants Hyperliens, ROBIC and Startupfest.
