From Montréal to Barcelona: How BusPas Is Accelerating Its Growth in Europe

In Barcelona, approximately 15 bus stops are now equipped with BusPas technology. For this Montréal-based company specializing in smart infrastructure for public transit and cities, this deployment with TMB has become an important reference as it continues to expand in the European market.

After participating in the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal’s business mission to the Smart City Expo World Congress in 2025, BusPas will return in 2026 with a clear ambition: to advance the relationships it has established and turn them into new projects.

Connecting With the Right Stakeholders

In 2025, BusPas arrived in Barcelona with specific objectives: to better understand the market, showcase its solutions and build relationships with strategic stakeholders, particularly in Madrid and within the Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona (AMB).

To achieve these objectives, the company wanted to draw on the CCMM’s network and credibility. The mission offered support before and during the trip, as well as targeted networking activities designed to facilitate discussions with the local ecosystem.

For BusPas, this approach made a difference.

The targeted meetings and access to a structured local network allowed the company to identify the right contacts more easily, gain a better understanding of the European market and initiate discussions that would have been more difficult to pursue independently. Activities organized with the Québec Government Office in Barcelona also helped the company establish new contacts in Spain and elsewhere in Europe.

From Barcelona to New Opportunities Across Europe

Since the mission, BusPas has strengthened its relationships within Barcelona’s ecosystem and developed new contacts in Portugal. These discussions have helped advance conversations with municipalities and public transit stakeholders, while also allowing the company to better understand tendering processes and the importance of local partnerships in the European market.

At the same time, its collaboration with TMB moved into deployment. BusPas technology was deployed at approximately 15 bus stops in Barcelona to collect and analyze data on ridership and activity around bus stop areas. This use case now serves as a reference in the company’s business development efforts in Europe.

Why BusPas Is Returning to Barcelona in 2026

This year, BusPas wants to go further: consolidate the relationships it has established, showcase its deployment with TMB, and present the latest evolution of its connected smart-mobility platform.

Building on its SmartSign infrastructure, BusPas is bringing together real-time passenger information, Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity, intelligent parking and curb enforcement, safety and situational-awareness capabilities, and advanced urban analytics in a single modular platform designed for cities and transit authorities.

These capabilities are designed to improve the passenger experience while supporting accessibility, safer streets, and broader Vision Zero objectives. BusPas also aims to secure more qualified meetings with cities, transit authorities, and strategic local partners.

Its objective is to turn the initiatives already underway into concrete projects, strategic partnerships, and commercial deployments.

The 2026 mission is designed to support that next step. Participating companies will benefit from targeted B2B meetings, support before, during and after the mission, and, for the first time, access to a shared booth at the heart of the trade show, where they can showcase their solutions and host business meetings.

“The mission organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal, with the support of the Québec Government Office in Barcelona, provided BusPas with a strong institutional framework to showcase its expertise at the Smart City Expo and advance its expansion efforts in Europe. It helped strengthen our presence within Barcelona’s ecosystem, highlight our project with TMB and pave the way for new collaborations with cities, transit authorities and local partners. In 2026, the CCMM is going even further with a structured presence centred around the Ville de Montréal booth—an initiative we intend to leverage to advance concrete projects.”
