Montréal, November 4, 2015 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is pleased with the number of ministers from Montréal sworn in today by the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau. It congratulates the members of the new federal Cabinet for their appointments and their new duties, particularly Mélanie Joly, member for Ahuntsic-Cartierville, for her appointment as Minister of Canadian Heritage, Stéphane Dion, member for Saint-Laurent – Cartierville, for his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Marc Garneau, member for Westmount – Ville-Marie, for his appointment as Minister of Transport.
“The city now has a stronger representation among ministers in the federal government than it has had in a long time,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “The composition of this new Cabinet is testimony to the important role cities play and repositions Montréal on the front lines. This opens the way to giving the Greater Montréal business community a greater voice and to increased awareness of its issues.”
“Transport, Foreign Affairs and Canadian Heritage are important pillars of our business environment,” Michel Leblanc said. “We have been working for a number of years to improve the flow of merchandise and people in the city, increase exports by local businesses and reinforce the cultural sector, all essential drivers of our economy. The Board of Trade would therefore like to reiterate its commitment to working with the new government to allow local businesses to grow and take an active part in creating collective wealth for the city.”
