The new Ericsson global ICT Centre: A vote of confidence in the Montréal metropolitan area

Montréal, June 3, 2013 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal applauds Ericsson’s decision to establish its new global information and communication technologies (ICT) centre in the Montréal metropolitan area. The investment of over $1 billion is one of the largest the city has seen in recent years. It will strengthen the ICT cluster and help position Montréal in the field of cloud computing, one of the fastest growing in the industry.

“We are delighted that Ericsson has decided to embark on such a strategically important and major expansion project in the Montréal metropolitan area,” says Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “Choosing our city over so many other major cities around the world reflects the confidence the company has in the potential of our economy and the talent of our people.”

“There is good reason to salute Ericsson, which, for over 25 years, has been one of the leaders that has shaped the economic character of Montréal,” Michel Leblanc says. “The Board of Trade would also like to acknowledge the contribution of the Government of Québec, which encouraged the company to pursue its expansion here. We will soon have the dual privilege of having important facilities with global reach in Montréal and Vaudreuil-Dorion. These assets will position our city for new international investments.”

The new and ultramodern Canadian centre will be located near two main Ericsson research and development sites ‒ Montréal and Ottawa. The project announced today will create 60 new engineering jobs and consolidate 200 R&D jobs.
