The Griffintown project: The Board of Trade welcomes the interest
of private investors in developing Montréal's harbourfront

Montréal, November 22, 2007 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is pleased by the interest shown by Devimco in making a major investment in the Griffintown sector of Montréal's harbourfront.

“For many years, the Board of Trade and the Société du Havre de Montréal – of which I chair the board of directors – have believed in the enormous potential of developing Montréal's harbourfront.  The interest shown by private investors in carrying out far-reaching projects, particularly on the east side, with the Viger station and hotel, and, today, on the west side, with the Griffintown project, is excellent news: this is the raw material we can use to revitalize this sector of the city,” declared Isabelle Hudon, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.

“Of course, because the urban fabric of any city is a fragile social and economic “ecosystem,” major projects inevitably entail their share of challenges.  To succeed, it is therefore important to maintain an atmosphere of openness, facilitating discussions between the developer, the City, and the community.  So far, Devimco has made a positive contribution to this atmosphere and proven its willingness to listen to the various concerns expressed.  We thus plan to participate actively in the next phases of discussion and consultation to assure Montrealers and the harbourfront of a high-quality major project,” concluded Hudon.

The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal has some 7,000 members. Its primary mission is to represent the interests of the business community of Greater Montreal and to provide individuals, merchants, and local businesses of all sizes with a variety of specialized services to help them achieve their full potential in terms of innovation, productivity and competitiveness. The Board of Trade is Quebec's leading private economic development organization.
