The Board of Trade welcomes Montréal's designation
as a geotourism destination

Montréal, October 18, 2007 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal warmly welcomes Montréal's recognition by the National Geographic Society as the first city in the world to sign the Geotourism charter.

“On the eve of the great Rendez-vous de la culture, this announcement reminds us of the importance of mobilizing Montréal's various stakeholders to support the development of our metropolis. This attestation confirms not only Montréal's enormous potential for urban tourism but also the importance of the cultural quality of our living environment to Montréal's identity and tourism offer. If we can work together for its enrichment – whether through efforts such as the one culminating today or during the next Rendez-vous –, we can accomplish great things for Montréal,” declared Isabelle Hudon, president and CEO of the Board of Trade.

“Moreover, as chair of the board of the Société du Havre de Montréal, I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate my firm commitment to ensuring that the accomplishment of plans to revitalize the harbourfront will further justify this important recognition by the National Geographic Society. In fact, the tourism potential of this sector along with our desire to develop it in a sustainable manner will help to enrich the overall tourism offer of the metropolis, make Montrealers proud, and make an important contribution to our economic vitality,” concluded Hudon.

Simon Brault, president of Culture Montréal and chair of the steering committee for Rendez-vous November 2007, concurred with Ms. Hudon, adding, “With the attestation announced today, the National Geographic Society is recognizing the exceptional wealth of Montréal's heritage and highlighting the magnificent appeal of a city that focuses on culture, creativity, invention, and diversity.”
