University health centres:
The long-awaited launch of major projects

Montreal, April 7, 2006 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is very pleased with the announcement made today by Philippe Couillard, Quebec minister of Health and Social Services, and Monique Jérôme-Forget, president of the Treasury Board, with respect to the McGill (MUHC), Université de Montréal (CHUM) and Hôpital Sainte-Justine university health centre projects.

“This announcement marks the much anticipated and very real launch of these projects, which are crucial for Montreal and all of Quebec,” stated Isabelle Hudon, president and CEO of the Board of Trade. “We also applaud the commitment of the government to conduct these projects with precision and rigour, particularly in terms of cost control. As major projects, the MUHC and CHUM have a responsibility to spur economic growth in the metropolis, strengthen Montreal's position in the life sciences sector, revitalize those areas of the city where they will be located, and above all, rekindle Quebecers' pride and enthusiasm for notable achievements.”

The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal has some 7,000 members. Its mission is to represent the interests of the business community of Greater Montreal and to provide individuals, merchants and businesses of all sizes with a variety of specialized services to help them achieve their full potential in terms of innovation, productivity and competitiveness. The Board of Trade is the largest private organization in Quebec dedicated to economic development.
