The Société du Havre announces the members of its new
Board of Directors, chaired by Isabelle Hudon

Montreal, June 5, 2006 – At the close of its annual general meeting, the Société du Havre de Montréal (Montreal Harbourfront Corporation) announced the members of its new board of directors as well as the challenges the Corporation will face during the coming year.

Chaired by Isabelle Hudon, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal, the board of directors of the Société du Havre will include:

  • Gérald Tremblay, Mayor of Montreal
  • Jacques Coté, president and CEO, Société du Havre de Montréal
  • Charles-Mathieu Brunelle, executive vice-president and CEO, TOHU
  • Daniel Fournier, ACNG Capital

Proud of the work accomplished since the inception of the Corporation, notably the creation of a shared, inclusive vision of the future, Lucien Bouchard and Francis Fox, co-chairs of the board of directors of the Société du Havre, emphasized the importance of changing the composition of the board in accordance with the challenges the Corporation will face during its new development phase.

“While the early years of the Société du Havre were dedicated to establishing a vision of the future, the coming months will see the launch of concrete development action steps,” stated Mr. Bouchard. “Within this context, the dynamism of Isabelle Hudon, the new chair of the board, and the determination of the other members of this small board will make the achievement of our ambitious objectives possible.”

“As with any major project, the biggest challenge in making Vision 2025 a reality will be to bring together and mobilize many different players in pursuing a single goal,” added Mr. Fox. “In this respect, Isabelle Hudon is pragmatic and more than capable of striking a balance between each person's priorities and the achievement of results.”

Realizing the potential of the harbourfront

“I am honoured to accept the chairmanship of the board of directors of the Société du Havre,” affirmed Ms. Hudon. “In the history of Montreal, we have rarely had the opportunity to develop a site as exceptional as the harbourfront. This opportunity becomes that much more exciting when one considers the powerful tools offered by Vision 2025. At a time when our metropolitan area is in need of a transformation through major projects, I am both enormously enthusiastic about my involvement in the Corporation and absolutely certain that the development of the harbourfront will contribute to Montreal in much the same way as Expo and the Olympics contributed.

“The excitement that I share with my colleagues on the board of directors would not be so pronounced if not for the exceptional work conducted by Messrs. Bouchard and Fox, with the support of their board members and the staff at the Corporation,” added Ms. Hudon. “They have had a dream of the harbourfront since the creation of the organization, and have transformed it into a vision with great promise. In doing so, they have shown all Montrealers the immense potential of this area. So it is really because of them that we are today able to work towards making this project a reality for Montreal.”

The Société du Havre de Montréalwas created as a result of the Montreal Summit in the spring of 2002 with financial support from the three levels of government. Its mandate was to develop, for the harbourfront and the surrounding urban space, a blueprint for a coordinated action plan as well as an implementation and funding strategy. In the spring of 2004 the Société unveiled Vision 2025, a proposal for the future of the harbourfront that has today become more tangible with this realistic action plan.
