The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal unveils the names
of the 2005 Outstanding Student Awards winners
Montreal , May 17, 2005 Twelve Secondary V and vocational education students from metropolitan Montreal school boards and private educational institutions today received an Outstanding Student Award 2005 from the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. The awards were presented during a private cocktail preceding a business luncheon at which Robert Tessier, president and CEO, Gaz Métro, was guest speaker.
We live in an age where the creation of wealth depends on the mastery and innovative application of knowledge. Education is a decisive competitive factor for major urban centres like Montreal , and the competence of the local labour force is a major location criterion for many companies and investors. It is therefore essential that our education system succeed in transmitting to students a taste for excellence. It was with this in mind that, more than twenty years ago, we established the Outstanding Student Awards program to celebrate the exceptional successes of our younger generation, declared Isabelle Hudon, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.
Since twenty-three years, the Board of Trade has organized the annual Outstanding Student Award competition to acknowledge the excellence of our young people in the following four categories: Science - Mathematics, Arts, Social sciences - Languages and Vocational Education.
I would like to warmly congratulate all the 69 finalists in the 23 rd edition of this competition among whom twelve winners demonstrated remarkable ability. Their success pays eloquent homage not only to their talent and perseverance but also to all those who played an active role in their education. We can be proud of this upcoming generation; they are a guarantee of our future prosperity, added Hudon.

The gold, silver, and bronze medallists received scholarships of $1,000, $700, and $300 respectively, as well as a gold,silver, or bronze plaque, as well as. In addition to academic achievements, this competition highlights personal attributes and team spirit of our future executives, entrepreneurs, specialists and technicians.
