The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal salutes
the excellence of secondary school and vocational education students
who received the 2006 Outstanding Student Awards
Montreal, May 30, 2006 The 2006 Outstanding Student Awards of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal were presented today to twelve Secondary V and vocational education students from metropolitan Montreal school boards and private educational institutions. The award ceremony was held during a private cocktail party preceding a business luncheon at which Jacques Parisien, president of Astral Media Radio and Astral Media Outdoor, was guest speaker.
Education is clearly a decisive competitive factor for a major urban centre like Montreal, and many companies and investors choose to locate here knowing they will find a competent local labour force. We must therefore do everything possible to encourage young people to excel and to instil in them a taste for excellence. It was with this in mind that we established the Outstanding Student Awards, a competition highlighting the efforts of the younger generation and its exceptional successes, declared Isabelle Hudon, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.
For the past twenty-four years, the Board of Trade has organized an annual Outstanding Student Award competition to acknowledge the competence of young people in the following four categories: Science/Mathematics, Arts, Social Sciences/Languages, and Vocational Education.
I would like to warmly congratulate the twelve winners of the Outstanding Student Award and also highlight the quality of the work of the 68 finalists. Once again this year, the contest attracted strong applicants. The winners demonstrated that they have the drive and enthusiasm needed to succeed. I would also like to point out that all the participants deserve our praise. For these young people have shown that they have the determination needed to make their mark in the world and can look forward to a bright future. In a metropolis like Montreal, where the competition demands that companies recruit the brightest talents, I have no doubt they will be able to take their place, added Hudon.

The gold, silver, and bronze medallists received scholarships of $1,000, $700, and $300 respectively, as well as a gold, silver, or bronze plaque. In addition to academic achievements, this competition highlights personal attributes and team spirit of our future executives, entrepreneurs, artists, specialists and technicians.
The Outstanding Student Awards is made possible by the financial support of Fédération des Caisses Desjardins du Québec, in collaboration with Alcoa, Bell, Bombardier, Gowlings, SNC-Lavalin, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and The Gazette.
The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal has some 7,000 members.
