The Board of Trade salutes the innovation and ambition of the Global Markets Action Plan

Montréal, le 27 novembre 2013 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal applauds Canada’s new trade strategy introduced by the Minister for International Trade, the Honourable Ed Fast, in its Global Markets Action Plan.

“The action plan presented today contains innovative measures and ambitious objectives,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “The Board of Trade has long been emphasizing the need to diversify our export markets and wholeheartedly approves of the new goal of increasing the proportion of Canadian SME exporters present on emerging markets to 50% by 2018. Combined with the fact that Canada is the only G8 country with privileged access to North American and European Union markets, this increased presence on emerging markets will strengthen the international position of Canadian exporters.”

“Among the new measures announced, we believe that the three-year market access plans will make it possible to identify winning strategies adapted to each priority market,” Michel Leblanc said. “The Board of Trade and its team of experts in international trade, the World Trade Centre Montréal, intend to take advantage of this invaluable tool to advise our members on exports.”

“The plan also focuses on the promotion of programs and policies related to free zones, an area where the city has a significant advantage what with its major port and airport infrastructures,” Mr. Leblanc said. “This will increase Montréal’s attractiveness to foreign investors and have a positive impact on our logistics and freight transportation industry.”

“Minister Fast can count on the cooperation of the Board of Trade and its WTCM team to achieve the goals of Canada’s new trade strategy,” Mr. Leblanc said. “Our commitment to the city’s exporters falls within the plan’s framework, particularly through our trade missions and training on different aspects of international trade.”
