Trade mission to China: the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is delighted with the early returns announced for the city

Montréal, October 28, 2014 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is delighted with the initial benefits announced for the city as a result of the trade mission to China led by Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard, which Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade, took part in.

“This trade mission is particularly important for the city’s business community,” Michel Leblanc said. “As Quebec’s second leading economic partner, China is one of the largest suppliers for local importers. Recently, this market also became the second largest for exporters. Trade missions like this help Quebec businesses more effectively penetrate the Chinese market and lead to commercial agreements.”

“We are very pleased that Greater Montréal businesses such as Enerkem, Omnia Technologies and HydroNov signed agreements at the beginning of this trade mission,” said Michel Leblanc. “This demonstrates the potential of the Chinese market for local businesses. The creation of a centre of excellence for certifying flights in icy conditions is also great news for Montréal and international recognition of our expertise.”

“To continue to develop these commercial ties, businesses need a direct flight between China and Montréal,” Michel Leblanc said. “The Board of Trade is actively involved in this issue and tabled a brief on the matter as part of Ville de Montréal consultations. We are very pleased that this trade mission was an opportunity to reiterate to Chinese authorities the importance of this direct flight for the city’s business community, and we are optimistic about the chances of seeing a direct flight established within the year.”
