Business opportunities in Shanghai for Quebec SMEs

Press release

Business opportunities in Shanghai for Quebec SMEs

Montréal, November 19, 2009 - The World Trade Centre Montréal, the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal's team of international trade experts, is pleased and proud to be hosting a business delegation from Shanghai tomorrow. This initiative, which stems from a collaboration with the City of Montréal, comes just a few months ahead of the World Trade Centre Montréal trade mission to China in May 2010.

"Our team of experts at the World Trade Centre is tasked with supporting SMEs in their export market development. As such, we are very pleased to be providing the opportunity for Quebec-based SMEs to lay the foundations for promising partnerships with Chinese entrepreneurs," said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of both the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal and the World Trade Centre Montréal. "The city of Shanghai is undergoing fast-paced change and remarkable expansion, for example in terms of its urban and industrial development. It represents a burgeoning market-and therefore an attractive one-for our SMEs."

Mr. Leblanc continued: "The visit by this delegation, made up of some 30 businesspeople and government officials from the People's Republic of China, is a prelude to the World Trade Centre Montréal trade mission, slated for next May, during which Quebec entrepreneurs will be invited to seize business opportunities. That mission is part of a targeted strategy to take advantage of the 2010 Universal Exposition in Shanghai. Our aim is to have local entrepreneurs fully benefit from the positive and very promising prospects that will be generated as a result of Montréal's presence in the Chinese city."

More than 80 Quebec companies will benefit from the Montréal visit by the Chinese delegation, which includes businesses from a variety of industries. Besides getting an overview of the business opportunities available in Shanghai, attendees will be able to meet with representatives of five activity sectors: Information and Communication Technology; Design and Construction in Green Building; New Energy Technology and High-Tech; Industrial Parks and Business Incubators; and Government Organizations. Participants will also have a chance to meet Louis Dussault, the City of Montréal representative who will be in charge of the Montréal pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai, and who will be on hand to talk about the city's involvement in this eagerly awaited event.

The meeting takes place on Friday, November 20, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the InterContinental Montreal. For more detailed information, visit this page on the Board of Trade's Website: http://www.ccmm.qc.ca/fr/calendrier-rencontresDaffaires_delegation_shangai.

Through its World Trade Centre Montréal experts and with the support of Canada Economic Development, the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal offers international trade services to the greater business community. The World Trade Centre Montréal is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
