The REM is the largest public transit project in Quebec in the last fifty years. This project requires a complete transformation of the Deux-Montagnes train line, which presents significant mobility challenges not only for its users, but also for companies whose employees use this line.
In order to go over the mitigation measures and identify possible solutions to the mobility issues facing small, medium and large companies, the Chamber, CDPQ Infra and the Ministère des Transports jointly organized a consultation workshop on October 7, entitled “Half-day for employers: addressing the issue of mobility in an era of major construction projects”. Nearly 200 employers responded to the call and discussed best practices and solutions to implement within their companies to mitigate the impact of the construction on their employees’ mobility.
At the end of these exchanges, the Chamber, the Ministère des Transports and the Réseau express métropolitain created practical fact sheets for employers to help them implement mobility solutions for their employees. The content, directly resulting from the discussions among the workshop participants, is divided into eight themes:
3. Satellite offices
5. Active transportation
6. Rules for group work
8. Communication to employees
According to the theme, each of the sheets sets out the obstacles, the conditions for success, the needs (financial, human and time) and the different stages of solution implementation within the company. Employers thus have solutions that they can adopt and integrate into their companies to help improve their employees’ quality of life and alleviate traffic congestion in the metropolitan region.
