Aerospace: The Chamber welcomes the major investments made by the Government of Canada, the Government of Québec and the private sector in Québec's aerospace sector

Montréal, July 15, 2021 - The Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal welcomes the recent announcements of major investments to revitalize the aerospace sector made by Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, François Legault, Premier of Québec, François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages, and Éric Girard, Minister of Finance and Minister of Economy and Innovation.

Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal, had this to say: "The announcement of public and private investments totalling close to $1.8 billion is excellent news for the city and all of Québec.  “It responds to the many calls for help from an industry hard hit by the health crisis. The magnitude of the investment underscores the central role this sector plays in the economic fabric of the city. We also welcome the creation of high value-added jobs, which will contribute directly to increased productivity and the revival of this industry. This mobilization will consolidate Greater Montréal’s position as a world leader in aerospace.

The significant amounts dedicated to research and development will allow the aerospace sector to compete in the race toward new technologies and the green shift. These significant contributions by both levels of government to support the sustainable recovery of the industry echo the recommendations we made with sector representatives as part of the Relaunch MTL initiative.

The Greater Montréal aerospace ecosystem features large world-class companies such as Pratt & Whitney Canada, Bell Textron Canada and CAE, as well as highly innovative SMEs that contribute to the supply chain. That is why the cooperation between the different levels of government and the private sector is so welcome. We are now seeing a strong commitment from governments to revive the sector, which will have a leverage effect on the major investments confirmed today."
