Sixth edition of Export Alliance Construction:
A unique event exclusive to companies in
Quebec's construction industry
Montreal, January 29, 2007 The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montréal, in partnership with the Ministère du Développement économique, de l'Innovation et de l'Exportation and the Société d'habitation du Québec, is holding the sixth edition of Export Alliance Construction in Montréal today at the OMNI Mont-Royal Hotel.
This important individual networking event enables Quebec's construction export companies to forge and strengthen new business relationships. For the first time this year, buyers from Western Canada are joining buyers from the American North-East. More than seventy Quebec contractors will meet with some twenty buyers in the residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional construction industry.
After experiencing a boom for the past several years, companies in this sector will no doubt have to adjust to a slowdown in Quebec's residential construction industry. Despite the impetus given by public infrastructure projects, growth will no doubt be somewhat slower in the metropolis and to a lesser degree throughout the province. The prosperity of our companies will thus depend more on their ability to expand their market share, not just internationally but in Western Canada, which is still experiencing strong growth, declared Isabelle Hudon, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.
Quebec has much to offer in the construction sector. Quebec companies are efficient, competitive, and skilled at developing innovative products in line with major international trends. Our industry is open to the world, and the Ministère du Développement économique, de l'Innovation et de l'Exportation supports Quebec companies in their efforts to diversify and consolidate their position in foreign markets, added Minister Raymond Bachand.
Along the same lines, the Board of Trade with the help of its team of experts at the World Trade Centre Montréal aims to serve as a bridge between local companies and foreign markets. In fact the mission of our international trade team a member of the global network of World Trade Centres, present in more than 320 cities worldwide is to support, train, and advise associations and companies in their efforts to penetrate international markets, promoting the export of their products and services through an integrated program of international trade solutions, added Hudon.
Export Alliance Construction was created to provide concrete assistance to companies in Quebec's construction sector to enable them to take full advantage of business opportunities arising in foreign markets.
Quebec manufacturers in the housing sector have achieved international standards in terms of quality, innovation, energy efficiency, sustainable development, and competitiveness. Many have already achieved success beyond our borders, and others are preparing to follow in their footsteps. The Société d'habitation du Québec therefore encourages industry members to explore new and expanding markets. An event such as Export Alliance Construction is made to measure to help local companies establish highly promising business contacts with foreign clients, declared Nathalie Normandeau, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Regions.
This event is made possible by a partnership with the Ministère du Développement économique, de l'Innovation et de l'Exportation and the Société d'habitation du Québec as well as the collaboration of Hydro-Québec, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the Association de la construction du Québec, and Export Development Canada.
