Who are we? What are our company’s objectives?
Ubisoft Montréal is one of the world’s leading game developers, with 2,700 employees based mainly in Mile End. Our mission is to develop game experiences to entertain and enrich the lives of players.
What problem are we trying to solve?
Since arriving in Mile End 17 years ago, we have been trying to integrate principles of sustainable development in managing our business. We are conscious of our role and responsibilities in the neighbourhood, Montréal and Québec, so we are involved on a number of fronts, including reducing our environmental footprint. One of our efforts is to promote sustainable mobility.
There are many issues with our employees’ mobility and transportation in Mile End, particularly since video games require working in teams and in person. We would like to improve our employees’ quality of life by making their travel smoother.
Already 70% of employees live within walking or biking distance or near a metro line, with a station a 15-minute walk from our offices.
However, for the 30% who live on the outskirts or who live far from the metro network, transportation can be a problem, particularly given that many of them have flexible, atypical schedules that are not suited to public transit after rush hour.
Finally, it is difficult to get to our offices by car and even more difficult to park.
What are our objectives?
We are searching for solutions that will facilitate the mobility of our employees and those of businesses in Mile End, while reducing our environmental footprint.
The solution has to help achieve one of the following objectives:
- Facilitate the urban mobility of our employees in Greater Montréal
- Promote the development of solidarity transportation to complement public transit
- Optimize the use of the network and spaces reserved for cars.
What is the target: who is our audience?
The 2,750 employees of Ubisoft Montréal, of which:
- 21% use their car to get to work
- 7% carpool
The others use public transit, cycle or walk.
Ultimately, we hope that this initiative can serve other businesses in the neighbourhood.
What will be the framework for the pilot project to test our solution?
Your proposal should identify a target group of participants for a pilot project to ensure credible sampling. If your solution is chosen, Ubisoft will mobilize a group of employees who meet the criteria.
Depending on the solution proposed, the criteria for success (rate of participation, frequency, retention, appreciation, geolocation, etc.) must be pre-established and approved upon the launch of the pilot project.
After familiarizing ourselves with the proposed solution and if it is a success, Ubisoft is prepared to evaluate the financial investment to implement the solution with its 2,270 employees and neighbourhood businesses.
As part of the pilot project, you can use data sets, including:
- The postal codes of participants
- The history of work schedules of participants from the previous month
Performance indicators should take into account the adoption rate for the solution as well as the retention rate among solution users.
What are the parameters and constraints?
All participants have a smartphone with a GPS feature that can be activated.
Connected objects can be used and agreements are possible with real estate owners, local merchants and the Ville de Montréal.
The adoption of the solution must not be based on enriching participants. However, Ubisoft is prepared to contribute to incentives to promote the solution’s adoption.
The solution can attack the problem from different angles, including:
- How do we promote the adoption of existing solutions?
- How can we better understand participant behaviour?
- How can we put participants in touch with each other?
