Trade mission to Los Angeles: unprecedented mobilization to support a strategic sector of our economy

Montréal, June 13, 2016 – From June 14 to 16, the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal and its team of international trade experts, the World Trade Centre Montréal, in partnership with the Alliance numérique, will conduct a trade mission to the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles. Some forty participants will attend the largest annual gathering in the video game and interactive entertainment industry. The size of the delegation demonstrates the vitality of the city’s businesses and provides international visibility for this strategic, growth-generating sector for Quebec and Montréal.

This international event is a chance for companies to meet and is a source of inspiration for players in interactive entertainment. Businesses taking part in the trade mission will be able to attend conferences, networking events and new game releases. More than 1,600 products are presented at E3, and over 50,000 video game professionals take part in it, including analysts and journalists from around the world and businesses from over 100 countries.

“We want to take this opportunity to send a strong message and show the strength of the city’s video game industry,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “Montréal has made a place for itself and has become one of the world leaders in video games. Its tremendous creative talent and the vitality and passion of its major players, SMEs and start-ups make the city a hub for the industry. A victim of its success, the industry is facing a shortage in qualified labour, and E3 is an excellent venue for convincing talented professionals to make the move to Montréal.”

“Taking part in E3 is a chance to size up the leadership and know-how of Quebec’s video game studios,” said Catherine Émond, General Manager of the Alliance numérique. “With more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs in over 140 studios, highly skilled labour and forecast annual growth in the order of 7% globally, the video game industry is in a solid position, and we need to continue to support, promote and develop it both in Quebec and around the world. The industry evolves quickly, so this annual event is an excellent way to stay on top of emerging innovations and major technology trends, which, as we know, have a major impact on our lives.”
