A strong identity for Sainte-Catherine St. West without compromising what makes it distinct

Montréal, May 13, 2015 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is delighted with the new design for Sainte-Catherine St. West presented today by the Mayor of Montréal and President of the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal, Denis Coderre.

“Revamping Sainte-Catherine St. West will reinforce its business environment,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “This is a unique opportunity to rethink the customer experience based on 21st century needs while maintaining the urban feel. The proposed design will showcase businesses, universities and entertainment venues while preserving the street’s authentic character.”

“Expanding the sidewalks will improve the pedestrian experience, creating public spaces worthy of a city of design and could offer more room for culture and local artists,” Michel Leblanc said. “We are also pleased that the Ville de Montréal has decided to install heated sidewalks, an innovation that the Board of Trade had called for and that will distinguish the city on the international scene. Sainte-Catherine St. must and will be a showcase for an intelligent, creative and vibrant city.”

Mitigate the impact of work on economic vitality

“We have been through construction work on Parc Avenue and Saint-Laurent Boulevard: revitalization work of the scope that Sainte-Catherine St. West will undergo presents major challenges in terms of management and communication and can have a serious negative impact on businesses,” Michel Leblanc said. “The action plan released this morning and the creation of PR@M Sainte-Catherine will ensure work is managed efficiently and will minimize the impact of the construction sites on businesses and on this major commercial artery in the city.”
