Methodology

The unemployment rate is the percentage of the total number of people of labour-force age that is unemployed. Note that to be considered “unemployed,” a person must be aged fifteen or over, not have a job, and be actively searching for employment.

The data provided by Statistics Canada is monthly and deseasonalized; this eliminates the impact of seasonal variations and makes it possible to compare data throughout the year.
