The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal celebrates the naming of Normand Legault as Personality of the Year at La Presse's Gala Excellence

Montreal, October 15, 2001 - Mr. Guy Fréchette, president of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal, is delighted with the naming of Normand Legault, president of the Formula One Grand Prix of Canada, as personality of the year at La Presse's Gala Excellence, broadcast by Société Radio-Canada, and wishes to underline the importance of Mr. Legault's contribution to the Greater Montreal business community.

“Mr. Legault participated fully in the shift made by the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal in the past few months to solidify its position as the foremost representative of the interests of the Greater Montreal business community and the promoter of its economic development. His entrepreneurial qualities contribute greatly to the economic expansion of Montreal and its promotion on the international scene.”

A passionate fan of automobile racing, Mr. Legault was first named personality of the week on June 17 by the La Presse daily newspaper to highlight the excellence of this dynamic entrepreneur, whose summer event generates economic spin-offs for the metropolitan area valued at $100 million.

A tireless worker, Mr. Legault was president of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal from September 2000 to October 2001 and is now chairman of its board of directors.

“As president of the Board of Trade, Normand brought with him a spirit of entrepreneurship that led to the making of speedy, enlightened decisions. Decisions that have marked the Board of Trade and will guide its future,” concluded Fréchette.

The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal has more than 7 000 members. Its mission is to be the leading group representing the interests of the Greater Montreal business community. The objectives are to maintain, at all times, relevance to its membership, credibility towards the media and influence towards government and decision-makers.
