Montréal mayoral election: The Board of Trade congratulates Michael Applebaum and offers its full cooperation in turning the city around

Montréal, November 16, 2012 – In the wake of the vote by city councillors, the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal congratulates Michael Applebaum, who will serve as mayor of Montréal until the next municipal election on November 3, 2013.

“We congratulate Michael Applebaum on his election as mayor,” says Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade. “He faces many challenges in turning Montréal around and providing management that is above reproach from now until the next municipal election. The city has shown surprising resilience given the difficult economic times and lack of control of processes at city hall. Naturally, Mr. Applebaum can count on the full cooperation of the Board of Trade in re-establishing the city’s image, pursuing projects that are under way and creating a business environment favourable to investment and job creation. The business community expects the elected officials at city hall to work together to keep up the pace in projects already in motion.”

The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is made up of some 7,000 members. Its mission is to represent the interests of the business community of Greater Montréal and to provide individuals, merchants, and local businesses of all sizes with a variety of specialized services to help them achieve their full potential in terms of innovation, productivity, and competitiveness. The Board of Trade is Quebec's leading private economic development organization.
