Montréal in Shanghai in 2010:
An opportunity to highlight the expertise of Montréal companies

Montréal, March 2, 2009 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal took advantage of the confirmation of the City of Montréal's presence at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo to announce the organization of a trade mission to the Chinese megalopolis.

“The Board of Trade is particularly pleased with the measures taken by the City of Montréal and the Quebec Government to ensure a strong presence for our metropolis at the 2010 World Expo. For many years, Montréal and Shanghai have nurtured strong, mutually beneficial ties. Through its missions, our team of international trade experts at World Trade Centre Montréal has already enabled several Montréal companies to make headway in this important market. The World Expo provides an exceptional opportunity to strengthen those ties – an opportunity we can't afford to miss!” declared Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade.

The confirmation of Montréal's presence in Shanghai also provides the Board of Trade with an ideal opportunity to announce that the WTC Montréal is planning a trade mission to China in 2010.

“China and the city of Shanghai represent spectacular business potential for our companies – all the more so in 2010, by which time we will very likely have seen signs of economic recovery. So it is with great enthusiasm that the Board of Trade officially launches preparations to organize a trade mission to China in 2010. We thus aim to help local companies make the most of the excitement generated by Montréal's presence in Shanghai in 2010,” concluded Leblanc.

The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal has some 7,000 members. Its primary mission is to represent the interests of the business community of Greater Montréal and to provide individuals, merchants, and local businesses of all sizes with a variety of specialized services to help them achieve their full potential in terms of innovation, productivity and competitiveness. The Board of Trade is Quebec's leading private economic development organization.
