Greenbuild trade mission: the construction sector goes green

Montreal, November 22, 2013 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal and its team of international trade experts, the World Trade Centre Montréal, enabled 22 Quebec businesses from the green construction sector to take part in activities at the Greenbuild Expo, taking place from November 19 to 21 in Philadelphia. This trade mission, organized in partnership with Export Québec and Développement PME Chaudière-Appalaches, offered an impressive showcase for the exhibitors in the Quebec pavilion at this international green construction expo.

“The post mortem from the trade mission to the Greenbuild Expo is very positive,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “Montréal entrepreneurs took full advantage of the networking activities and one-on-one meetings to build valuable business connections. In fact, some entrepreneurs signed contracts on site, and others entered into serious negotiations. The Quebec pavilion also helped spotlight business and partnership opportunities in Greater Montréal.”

“The dual challenge of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and ensuring economic growth requires greater use of green materials and technologies,” said Jean-François Lisée, Minister of International Relations, La Francophonie and External Trade and Minister responsible for the Montréal region, who accompanied the business delegation to Greenbuild. “Quebec businesses are in an enviable position for making this shift, thanks to our plentiful natural resources and the expertise of highly qualified labour. Our businesses are stakeholders in this solution, which is why we are delighted with the impact of this event.”

“This first trip to the Greenbuild Expo and the efforts of the international trade experts from the World Trade Centre Montréal helped position Quebec’s green construction companies on the American market, which should experience strong growth in the coming years,” Mr. Leblanc said. “This sort of event helps promote the potential of Quebec entrepreneurs in a flourishing sector.”
