Military training contract awarded to CAE: Good news for Montréal

Montréal, February 13, 2009 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal welcomes the Canadian government's announcement that it has awarded a $330 million contract to CAE for state-of-the-art training of Canadian Forces pilots.

“Given today's economic context, this announcement could not have come at a better time. On the one hand, it recognizes the excellence of Montréal's aerospace cluster, of CAE, and of its partners in this project, including Bombardier. On the other hand, it proves that, with actions such as this one, the government can support Montréal's strategic sectors, strengthen our global leaders, and ensure that jobs and expertise are maintained beyond the crisis. Despite our legitimate concerns regarding the economy, all is not lost. This announcement reminds us clearly of that fact,” declared Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.

The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal has some 7,000 members. Its primary mission is to represent the interests of the business community of Greater Montréal and to provide individuals, merchants, and local businesses of all sizes with a variety of specialized services to help them achieve their full potential in terms of innovation, productivity and competitiveness. The Board of Trade is Quebec's leading private economic development organization.
