Les amis de la montagne launch the 14th edition of the Tuques bleues celebration
and snowshoe event

Montreal, January 26, 2011 – The honorary co-chairs of the Tuques Bleues Celebration launched the countdown to the 14th edition of this benefit event that will be held February 17 on Mount Royal today at Smith House on the occasion of a gathering of the event partners and organizers.

Mr. Cyril Bendahan, Vice-President, Group Benefits, Québec Region, Manulife Financial, and Mr. Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal, invite Montrealers to participate in this most unique and festive events.

“Les amis de la montagne, its mission and the annual Tuques Bleues Celebration, provide us with a unique and privileged opportunity; not only do they connect us to our past by recalling the simple pleasures of another era, but they also project us into a future that we can plan, create and preserve. This event is a wonderful occasion to celebrate our mountain while contributing to its conservation. I encourage you to participate in great numbers in this celebration,” said Cyril Bendahan.

“Mont Royal is an integral part of our history and identity. Its presence at the heart of our city offers Montrealers an enviable quality of life. The Tuques Bleues Celebration is a moment to celebrate the ultimate symbol of Montréal and to do something concrete to protect it. I encourage the entire business community not to miss this event and to take the opportunity to bask in the joys of winter and nature without leaving the city,” added Michel Leblanc.

More than 700 participants are expected to attend the event. The objective is to raise $250,000 to benefit education and protection programs on Mount Royal. The Tuques Bleues Celebration recalls the famous snowshoe treks by torchlight organized by the sporting clubs in the 19th Century. Members of these first snowshoe clubs in North America could be identified by their blue tuques.

This year, the business community, particularly young entrepreneurs, has been invited to enter a special team challenge. Video-testimonials of two such entrepreneurs encouraging their peers to participate may be viewed at www.lemontroyal.qc.ca.

Les amis de la montagne extend thanks to their partners for their commitment and contribution to the event: principal partner, Gold level: Manulife Financial; Silver level, Atmosphere and Mansfield Club Athlétique; with the support of Tubbs Snowshoes and Atlas Snowshoes.
