The Board of Trade celebrates school retention by inviting over 300 students to hear Chris Hadfield speak

Montréal, January 23, 2014 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal, with the support of BMO Financial Group, Montreal Hooked on School and Rio Tinto Alcan, is pleased to celebrate school retention by inviting over 300 high school students to attend a talk by Colonel Chris Hadfield. The event, which is part of the Bell International Leaders series, takes place this evening before 1400 spectators at the Place des Arts’ Théâtre Maisonneuve.

“Colonel Chris Hadfield is one of those important figures who transforms our society and makes the entire world dream,” said Michel Leblanc, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “The 300 students invited to his talk will have a chance to learn valuable lessons from the journey that led him to become an astronaut and revel in his passion for his vocation. I hope they will see him as a role model of dedication and determination and take away from the event that we can all make our dreams come true.”

“Success in school and school retention are the foundations of our knowledge economy,” Mr. Leblanc said. “For almost 20 years, the Board of Trade has been working to make young people aware of the importance of getting a diploma and pursuing higher education, in particular through Operation Back to School. Every year, this program sends close to 350 speakers to high schools to inspire students by describing the successes and failures that have punctuated their education and career.”

“This evening, the 300 young people in attendance will experience something special, and, who knows, it could be a decisive moment in their schooling,” Michel Leblanc said. “The Board of Trade and the stay-in-school ambassadors for this evening are proud to offer these young people the chance to meet Colonel Chris Hadfield. I know he will convince them to persevere and to believe that, like him, they can aspire to great things.”

Colonel Chris Hadfield’s address is made possible through the support of Bell, in partnership with evenko. It is organized in collaboration with CJAD 800, La Presse+, Loto-Québec, Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP and The Gazette.
