Acquisition of Silo no. 5 by the Canada Lands Company:
an important step for Montréal

Montréal, November 1, 2010 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is thrilled with today’s transfer of ownership of Silo no. 5 to the Canada Lands Company (CLC) and how fast this transaction was completed.

“Through this agreement, Montrealers are recovering an exceptional site and a building that is part of the industrial and technological evolution of the city,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “Like the CLC, the Board of Trade recognizes this building’s extraordinary potential.”

“Silo no. 5, through its size, exceptional location and above all the fabulous view it offers of the city, can and must become a landmark building that symbolizes Montréal’s renewal,” Mr. Leblanc said. “At the junction of the Quartier du multimédia, the Quartier international and the Quartier de l’innovation, it represents a unique opportunity to begin the revitalization of the urban network while preserving one of the symbols of our industrial heritage.”

“The CLC, as with its work on the Bassins du Nouveau Havre, is demonstrating exemplary efficiency in this project,” Mr. Leblanc said. “The Board of Trade is committed to offering the support necessary to make the project an unqualified success.”

The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is made up of some 7,000 members. Its mission is to represent the interests of the business community of Greater Montréal and to provide individuals, merchants, and local businesses of all sizes with a variety of specialized services to help them achieve their full potential in terms of innovation, productivity, and competitiveness. The Board of Trade is Quebec's leading private economic development organization.
