Future of the Royal Victoria Hospital - The Board of Trade welcomes the launch of the request for proposals for the feasibility study

Montréal, September 25, 2015 ‒ The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is delighted that McGill University has initiated the public request for proposals process for converting the unused Royal Victoria Hospital buildings.

“This is an important step in expanding McGill University,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “The Royal Victoria Hospital site has tremendous potential. The buildings are strategically located. The major conversion will help develop a key part of downtown. If we don’t move quickly, the site will deteriorate and restoration costs will skyrocket.”

“The development of universities – which are a driver of our city’s knowledge economy – is a priority for the Board of Trade and the business community,” Michel Leblanc said. “We also support McGill University’s plans. This is why we welcomed the commitment announced by the Government of Quebec at our March Strategic Forum on Major Projects to invest $4 million of the $8 million needed to complete the feasibility studies. Discussions about the future of the former Royal Victoria Hospital buildings have gone on long enough. The time has come to take action, and McGill University’s announcement sends a clear signal that this important site will not be abandoned.”
