The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal recognized for its contribution to integrating Syrian refugees

Montréal, September 22, 2016 ‒ The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is proud to have received a Peace Medal from the YMCAs of Quebec yesterday evening for its efforts to integrate to the workforce Syrian refugees who have recently arrived in Greater Montréal. In May, 100 representatives of local businesses responded to the Board of Trade’s call by participating in a day of familiarization and meetings attended by over 100 Syrian refugees.

“We are honoured to receive this recognition for putting this event for Syrian refugees together, which included a seminar on the Montréal job market and a networking activity,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “I would like to thank our partners, Intact Financial Corporation and CN, who made a financial contribution to help organize the day. I would also like to acknowledge the support of the Centre d’appui aux communautés immigrantes, which helped bring together the participating refugees. And I am very proud of the commitment of the Board of Trade’s staff. Together, we are making a difference.”

“The Montréal business community took action to support Syrian refugees,” Mr. Leblanc said. “We intend to continue in our collaborative and mobilization efforts. We are already working on putting together a series of activities in the coming months for Syrian refugees in the region to help them join the workforce.”
