Kim Thomassin appointed Chair of the board of directors of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal for 2014-2015

Montréal, November 10, 2014 – Following its annual meeting held today, the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is pleased to announce the appointment of Kim Thomassin, Managing Partner, Québec Region, for McCarthy Tétrault, as Chair of its board of directors for 2014-2015. Ms. Thomassin, who spent the past year as First Vice-Chair, takes the reins from Jean-Marc Léger, President of Leger – The Research Intelligence Group.

“I am honoured by the trust the members of the Nominating Committee have shown in me by awarding me this mandate,” said Kim Thomassin, the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal’s new Chair of the board of directors. “As a board member since 2010, I have had the opportunity to be part of important decisions that have shaped the Board of Trade’s credibility and influence. So I am particularly proud to find myself at the helm of the board of an organization that firmly defends the interests of its members and the Greater Montréal business community.”

“No doubt 2014-2015 will have its share of challenges, particularly given that Montréal is in need of innovative initiatives to ensure its prosperity,” Ms. Thomassin said. “This is why we need to continue to leverage the Board of Trade’s commitment and proactive efforts to support local businesses in their development and the next generation of entrepreneurs.”

As Chair of the board for 2014-2015, and as Retiring Chair of the board the following year, Ms. Thomassin will play a strategic role with the Board of Trade’s senior management and provide a regular presence at its activities. Throughout this period, she will also sit on the Board of Trade’s executive committee.

Kim Thomassin is Managing Partner at McCarthy Tétrault for the Québec Region, one of the few Canadian women to hold this position at a major national law firm while continuing to practice.

Her practice deals mainly with financing projects in the energy and infrastructure sectors, acquisitions and financing transactions, as well as commercial transactions. She is extremely knowledgeable about the renewable energy and infrastructure sectors. In recent years, she has had a hand in the most important transactions in this sector, both in Canada and internationally.

Since 2008, she has been a member of the firm’s national management team, contributing to McCarthy Tétrault’s regional and national management, while reinforcing the firm’s presence across the country. As a managing partner, she also plays an important role in pursuing one of the firm’s clear priorities: the professional advancement of women lawyers.

In 2010, as part of the Lexpert Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40 award, Lexpert named her one of law’s “rising stars.” In 2012, the Women’s Executive Network named her one of the 100 most influential women in Canada. She also received a Zenith award from Lexpert as a “leading lawyer” for 2013.
