WHY TAKE PART?

Latin America and the Caribbean have benefited from economic and legal reforms in recent years, allowing them to enjoy a stable environment for commercial initiatives.

This stability—which is reflected in increased trade throughout the region (no less than 24 bilateral mechanisms exist between the region’s various countries and Canada) and in the establishment of several multinationals—offers Québec companies access to a large number of projects in the construction and infrastructures sectors.

Latin America and the Caribbean are made up of 21 countries including:

Brazil
With a population of 199.3 million inhabitants in 2012 and the highest growth rate in Latin America, Brazil is Canada’s 9th largest trade partner in terms of exports. Major sports events being organized there, such as the FIFA World Cup in 2014 and the Olympics in 2016, are serving as strong catalysts. The country’s economic climate is especially favourable, as numerous investments are being made in the sports and urban infrastructure (transportation, airports, stadiums), hotel, and security sectors.

Chile
One of the most stable economies in Latin America, with an estimated GDP of 6% in 2012. The country has enjoyed a healthy and profitable relationship with Canada for the past fifteen years, thanks to a free trade agreement (CCFTA).

Peru
This dynamic market is currently undergoing rapid growth. With a population of almost 30 million inhabitants, its potential for economic growth is very high. In 2011, bilateral trade with Canada amounted to 4.45 billion dollars.

Peru is ranked 3rd in Latin America and the Caribbean on the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Index.
